Midnight Sun 03:13
Midnight sun when midnight's come Shines as bright at midnight as it does at noon With a light so bright it can hide from sight A billion stars and a big 'ol moon "But where you going when the summer's end Brings the noon-time night and the freezing winds?" I'm gonna stick right here an' stay where I am You see the midnight sun sticks with a man When there ain't no night all that's left is light When there ain't no nothin' all that's left is one When the silence is gone all that's left is a song To remind us of the midnight sun "But where you going when there's nothing left? Not you sister nor your brother nor your parents?" I'm gonna stick right here, I'm gonna hang around An' catch the midnight sun goin' down When the clock struck twelve you were by yourself You were out there man, yeah you were far as you could get Whet your toes froze you cried, "there she blows!" And the midnight sun finally set Now where you going till the sun comes back? Gonna stumble and a-fumble in the cold and the black? "I'm gonna stick right here, I ain't goin' nowhere, I seen the the midnight sun and now I don't care" Midnight sun when midnight's come Shines as bright at midnight as it does at noon With a light so bright it can hide from sight A billion stars and a big 'ol moon "But where you going when the summer's end Brings the noon-time night and the freezing winds?" I'm gonna stick right here an' stay where I am You see the midnight sun sticks with a man

On a moonlit night we walk in the forest A moonlit night with you The moon is bright and my heart is restless on this moonlit night, what we gonna do? The nightingale sings in the distance The song he sings he sings for his mistress Moonlit night, we walk in silence You seem to know what I am after On my moonlit night with you Try to take it slow though my heart just beats faster As the moonlit night continues How does it feel to know I'm beside you, Is it really real like do you feel it deep inside you? Moonlit night, we walk in silence The shadows can no longer hide you On a moonlit night I can see I take your hand and I guide you On this moonlit night, you and me But what you don't show is still lost in mystery How will I know if you won't tell me? Moonlit night, we walk in silence

When will you tell me your secrets? I have been dying to know Where you left all your footprints, Under the fresh fallen snow? They lead to that cabin you see Lost in the pines And though the footprints are yours They lead to something that's mine Once it seemed there was nothing I wished to conceal My love for you turned into something Like pride or like zeal And it shined like the light Of fifty summer suns It shined, it made itself clear To each and everyone Now I cling to my shadows, They hide my secret property And I constantly follow Wherever it is that they lead me Into the darkest of woods Where no man has ever walked To preserve my perishing goods To cache my winter stock

Soft and Low 04:49
The first time I heard you sing I couldn't keep from shivering But I don't think it was because I was cold It was the way you sang, you sang soft and low Soft and low, soft and low It's my very favorite way For a song to go Soft and low, soft and low Soft and low I love you baby, that's a fact And the love I give to you I don't even ask for it back And you might ask, "Well then, where does that love go?" Well it goes down somewhere soft and low Soft and low, soft and low It's my very favorite place For my love to go Soft and low, soft and low Soft and low When I ain't got no more days left When this heart of mine stops beating soft and low in my chest Well there's just one thing that I know I'm going out singing soft and low Soft and low, soft and low It's my very favorite way For a song to go Soft and low, soft and low Soft and low Soft and low, soft and low

Your heart sits like a yonder star Out on the horizon, very far I keep on following into the dawn Because my heart wants to go on As far, as far, as far as the heart will go Yes, as far, as far, as far as the heart will go My feet may ache, I might have callused hands My back may break, leaving me unable to stand But I keep on moving, on down that road Because my heart still wants to go As far, as far, as far as the heart will go Yes, as far, as far, as far as the heart will go I've been to Africa, been to Timbuktu Longest trip I will ever take is loving you... Get me out of the city, into the woods Get me somewhere pretty where the people are good And I'll love you strong, I'll love you pure I'll love you like a song you can sing forever 'Cause that's as far, as far, as far as the heart will go Yes, as far, as far, as far as the heart will go

Drinking Cup 03:56
Early in the morning with the sun not yet come up I went out on my pony and I left behind my love Between the fields of barley and the glowing sky above I left my love behind me but I brought my drinking cup Cup, my cup, my drinking cup, my cup I love you so Cup of aching cup of waking, cup of pain and woe Cup of worries, cup so mean, cup of deep sorrow Cup of freedom, cup of dreams, cup of wine that flows I saddled up my pony and I rode far away And then I set that pony free and I sat to drink all day And thought about my true love and just what she would think When she'd awaken and be forsaken for my cup of drink Cup, my cup, my drinking cup, my cup I love you so Cup of aching cup of waking, cup of pain and woe Cup of worries, cup so mean, cup of deep sorrow Cup of freedom, cup of dreams, cup of wine that flows "One sad day they will find you with your hand in a death grip Upon that cup which you hold up to your lips to take a sip They'll put you in a coffin and then the lid they'll shut You'll leave this world behind you but you'll bring that drinking cup" Cup, my cup, my drinking cup, my cup I love you so Cup of aching cup of waking, cup of pain and woe Cup of worries, cup so mean, cup of deep sorrow Cup of freedom, cup of dreams, cup of wine that flows I thought that my pony had run off to be seen no more, But alone out in the wilderness he must have gotten bored For suddenly I seen him comin' at a steady gallop My pony come back to drink with me from my drinking cup Cup, my cup, my drinking cup, my cup I love you so Cup of aching cup of waking, cup of pain and woe Cup of worries, cup so mean, cup of deep sorrow Cup of freedom, cup of dreams, cup of wine that flows

Well the snow is finally falling and the birds have all flown It's winter in Montana and your friends are going home And you'd like to write a letter but you can't reckon who You'd rather take the time to write your thoughts down to And anyway that mail box is broke it makes letters disappear Every time you open it there's nothing there But buy some Christmas cards and try to write And hope that Lolo will do for tonight And you never saw her coming but she's here just the same To break your back with kindness and to forget your name And if you'd 'a never met her or if she'd 'a never come around You'd be hard pressed to find a reason for feeling so low down This new girl we'd hoped would never come Is doing all the same things the other one 'a done But come your hair back tie those shoes tight And hope that Lolo will do for tonight

I love Jackie I love Jackie And I know she don't love me But I love Jackie Spring time in Montana Lots of girls go walking 'round Susie goes a-walkin', so does Hannah Jenny and Jesse and Jackie Brown And I know she don't love me But I love Jackie Her brothers and her parents, they all say That she is too good for me Even though it's true what they say They don't have to say it to Jackie And I know she don't love me But I love Jackie I love Jackie I love Jackie And I know she don't love me But I love Jackie

When I met the girl with the golden guitar I had never seen anything so pretty Right away I knew it just had to be her The way her curves fit up against my knee Her long straight neck her golden hair strings I just stood and stared She wasn't a guitar, she was everything But it was nothing compared to when the golden girl'd sing And when my fingers strummed where they're supposed to strum I could not play a wrong note And the chords started to shimmer and hum And the melodies started to float And the songs welled up like water from a spring They flowed out and on and on Until finally like a river raging And it wouldn't be long till the golden girl'd sing There are birds whose songs are sung in the forest Melodies that float on the air Flying south they don't stop to take a rest They'd rather stay up there Wolves that howl through sharp white fangs Whales are moaning in the deep And country boys who can croon and twang But they just don't compete to when the golden girl sang And later on at the end of the hoedown I asked her, "where you going to next?" And after she'd had a good look around She told me, "well, with you I guess" And we went out together when the night was done Into that gold morning light I was in love, I guess she wasn't alone And it was just like when the golden girl'd sung

Lover come up from the valley Come up in the brightness of day Carrying bottles of Burgundy Saying that she would stay Lover come up from the valley Come up when the day was so bright But when the bottles were empty I left in the cover of night Lover come down from the mountain Dressed in very fine lace Carrying a beaming lantern So I could see her face Lover come down from the mountain Dressed in clothes so plain Carrying this time no lantern And I couldn't see her the same And that night the wind blew and the snow flew That night we froze to the bone And there was a tent where the others went And the tent where I slept alone Lover gone down to the valley Where no one was in sight Lover gone down to the valley Finding only empty bottles in the night Lover gone up to the mountain Where no one could be found Lover gone up to the mountain Finding only plain clothes on the ground
